Skype installation

Since Ubuntu 10.04, Skype is in the Canonical partner repository. All you have to do is start Software Sources (under System -> Administration) and enable “Canonical Partners” under the tab Other Software. Then:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype

More info here.

Ubuntu 10.10

Under Ubuntu 10.10 Software Sources is not anymore in System -> Administration. They moved it into Ubuntu Software Centre (under Applications). If you still want the good old Software Sources, you have these options:

  • Launch it from the command line (sudo software-properties-gtk).
  • Put it back under System -> Administration. Right click on the System menu, select “Edit menus” and scroll down to “Administration” and check the box next to “Software Sources”. This tip is from here.
