Free list of Elite proxy servers

Problem
You want to collect a list of free Elite proxies.

Solution
Currently I scrape these pages to maintain a list of Elite proxies:

It’s enough for me now. If my needs change in the future, I will update this list.

Types of proxy servers

The source of the following list was found here.

  • Transparent Proxy
    This type of proxy server identifies itself as a proxy server and also makes the original IP address available through the http headers. These are generally used for their ability to cache websites and do not effectively provide any anonymity to those who use them. However, the use of a transparent proxy will get you around simple IP bans. They are transparent in the terms that your IP address is exposed, not transparent in the terms that you do not know that you are using it (your system is not specifically configured to use it.) This type of proxy server does not hide your IP address.
  • Anonymous Proxy
    This type of proxy server identifies itself as a proxy server, but does not make the original IP address available. This type of proxy server is detectable, but provides reasonable anonymity for most users. This type of proxy server will hide your IP address.
  • Distorting Proxy
    This type of proxy server identifies itself as a proxy server, but make an incorrect original IP address available through the http headers. This type of proxy server will hide your IP address.
  • High Anonymity Proxy (a.k.a. Elite Proxy)
    This type of proxy server does not identify itself as a proxy server and does not make available the original IP address. This type of proxy server will hide your IP address.

Proxy Explorer

March 10, 2012 Leave a comment

Problem
You need a list of working US proxies for listening to Pandora Radio.

Solution
What you need is jabbapylib’s proxy explorer script.

Example

$ ./proxies.py
# extracting list..............................done.
Working US proxies:
(1) {'ip': u'209.239.112.78:8080', 'type': u'Transparent', 'avg_time': 133.46, 'country': u'United States'}
(2) {'ip': u'173.236.204.117:8080', 'type': u'Transparent', 'avg_time': 186.14, 'country': u'United States'}
__END__

The list of proxies changes minute by minute, so don’t use these IP addresses, they must be outdated by now.

FoxyProxy, proxy switcher for Firefox

February 23, 2012 1 comment

Problem
While browsing, you want to use a proxy server.

Solution
The FoxyProxy add-on allows you to switch proxies easily.

Use Case
Say you want to listen to Pandora Radio but when you visit their website you get a warning in your face: “You are not a US resident therefore you don’t exist. Go away!” What can you do? Install FoxyProxy, set up a US proxy, verify it on an arbitrary site to see if it works, then visit the Pandora website again. Problem solved.

No one can stop The Pirate Bay

Firefox: If you’re living in a location where local DNS and IP blocks keep you from visiting certain websites, The Pirate Bay Dancing is an extension that undoes that automatically by routing you through random proxy servers.

More info here.

Proxy list
I looked at the source of the add-on and it takes the list of proxy servers from this source:
